Running Tunes

My favorite running song - by far - is Metallica's Orion. In second place, and mostly by association, is Damage Inc., also by Metallica.

Sunday's race cemented that, as if it needed it. They are the last two songs on the Master of Puppets CD, and I never split them up. That combination led me to the finish at the Run Through Redlands, the Mission Inn 10K and Sunday's 15K. I really didn't plan it that way, especially in the Half, since the iPod crashed out on me around Mile 11 or so.

I like the song because it is long (about eight minutes, maybe more) so I can knock out a mile while it plays. It's got the perfect combination in terms of being something upbeat and heavy at the same time. It's also an instrumental so I tend to just lose myself in the rhythm and then lose myself in my thoughts. And then Damage Inc. is just a heavy, heavy song that just gets me super-pumped and allows me to release my energy.

I'm not sure about the look of the Surf City playlist (in case you havent' noticed I've been throwing songs on the right side somewhere that will comprise my Surf City playlist). Well, I am 100 percent certain that those two songs will be on the playlist of course but I am not sure at what point to bring them in. I guess I'll have some time to think about that.

What's your favorite running song? What song do you enjoy working out to?

What song do you think I should throw on my running playlists?

I have some older classic rock stuff that I don't really listen to. I have the entire Led Zeppelin collection, some greatest hits CDs by The Guess Who, Kansas, The Who, Rod Stewart, The Cars, John Lee Hooker, James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac... I ripped a lot of CDs for my father-in-law a while ago to put on his computer and just sort of helped myself. Plus my brother got more music the same way and gave me a bunch of it. Anyway, let me know if I'm missing out on some good tunes.

For instance, I just started listening to The Eagles' Take It Easy last week and it is an awesome song to run to.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I haven't run to Led Zeppelin. Maybe I'll start there.

Sorry, I'm not much help with a running list but I've got an idea for a "calming your marathon anxiety nerves". How about Que Sera Sera by Doris Day?

Some of my favorite "good beat" music is by The Refreshments. I lived in Arizona for a while and they were getting serious play on the radio when their album Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy came out. I know...it sounds weird...but they're good.

Three favorites..."Down Together", "Girly", and "Banditos."

You should check 'em out!

Well we definitely have different tastes in music but one song that does it for me is by Coldplay, Viva la Vida. Everytime I hear it on the radio I want to run.

I've got some 80s songs around. Might throw them into an upcoming run.

And I listened to The Refreshments, RG. Good stuff. I'd heard one of their songs. Gotta go get that on iTunes.

And thanks Tahoe! I'm flattered :) you guys are the reason I blog away.

I'm a big Muse fan. Anything by Muse, even their slower songs. Amazing.

I have tried running to "Stairway to Heaven", but it starts off to slow.

I am not sure you like my taste in music :)

I really like running to teeny bopper pop, old school rap, 80's music and showtunes!
