Training plan for the big one

Or is it the big half? This may be the plan I follow to train for the half-marathon. I punched in some numbers on RunnersWorld.com and this is what it spit out at me, a 12-week plan.

Scary.

Wow, I've never used a training tool, it actually looks a bit intimidating! I think the most daunting part is the pace it tells you to keep (at least I think that's what it is). Anything asking me to keep a 10 min mile is a no brainer, but keeping an 8 min pace, now that's scary!! I never trained for my half mile, per say. At the time I was running a lot. One day would be my 5 miler, then there was an 8 miler, a 9 miler and an 11 miler day. I live in a hilly area, so a lot of my runs have a hill or two. Adrenaline and stamina brought me across the line! If I do decide to go for a marathon, I think I would need one of these training guides. But, LB, with your determination, I guarantee you, you could go out tomorrow and finish a half, maybe not at a pace you would prefer, but you would finish running..

Thanks TW! That's certainly encouraging!

You know, the strange thing about this guide is that I won't actually run the distance during the training. I get to 10 and 11 miles but not to the actual 13.2. But I've seen other similar training guides and they are the same. That part seems kind of strange to me but what do I know? These are backed by pros and people who know what their doing. Maybe they don't want you to get injured or something. I know for marathon trainings you don't get to 26 miles either, just 20 or so.

Still, I think I'd be tempted to "cheat" one on of the long run days and get to 13 miles at least. I guess I'll run over that bridge when I get to it.
